YTT Frequently asked questions
Have questions? We have answers! Read on for answers to many of our most frequently asked questions about teacher training.
What happens when I complete YTT? Am I a certified yogi?
Well, yes! Completing all of the hours and requirements of our teacher training program earns you an internationally recognized Yoga Alliance RYT-200 Certificate. But, we think that in addition to your certificate, you’ll likely experience growth in your practice and other parts of your life that is equally as valuable!
What if I don’t want to teach or am undecided?
That’s a-ok! Many students take YTT solely to deepen their own practice and never intend to teach. Others decide during the training whether or not teaching is for them. You’ll get lots of opportunities during YTT to try it out through practice teaching and whatever you decide is right for you is right for you!
How much yoga experience do I need to have before doing YTT?
There is no minimum yoga experience requirement to join YTT. Some students have been doing yoga regularly for many years, while others have recently started their practice. If it’s something you’re feeling called to do, regardless of your experience level, we’d love to have you join us.
But for real. I can’t do a chaturanga (or x, y, z other pose)! I can’t possibly qualify for YTT.
For real! YTT, just like all yoga, meets you where you’re at NOW in your practice. There isn’t a magical yoga threshold you must meet, certain postures you must master, and you don’t need to be able to quiet your mind for a 30-minute meditation requirement to start teacher training. You’ll learn so much about all of these aspects of yoga (and more!) during YTT and you’ll get a ton stronger throughout the program. By the end you’ll be able to do things you never thought you could and there will be new skills you’re working towards. As Risa always says, confetti doesn’t fall from the ceiling when you achieve a pose. There’s always something more to learn!
How much work should I expect outside of scheduled class time?
Outside the pre-corded content and live stream group discussions, on average students spend around 5 hours a week on readings, journaling, and other projects for YTT. You should also expect to take class several times a week and you’ll be provided a free unlimited yoga pass for the months of training. We wholeheartedly believe that students who are able to fully dedicate themselves to the commitment of time, energy, and internal reflection receive the most in return from the process.
How should i be prepared for watching the lectures and group discussion?
Your provided YTT binder and books
A journal and writing utensils
Your mat
I need to miss a day, what do I do?
All of the virtual YTT group sessions will be recorded in the event that you need to miss a session. If you need to miss any portion of training, please inform Risa & the studio manager (contact information will be provided) as far in advance as possible. They will let you know what you should study / practice on your own due to the absence. There is a small amount of time built in for absences and any hours missed beyond that buffer will need to be made up in order to complete your certification.
